A Practical Guide to NORYL Resin Grades and Applications
NORYL is a family of modified polyphenylene ether (PPE) resins. These blends of PPE and polystyrene deliver a strong balance of properties: affordable high heat resistance, excellent electrical insulation, hydrolytic stability, and compatibility with non-halogenated flame retardants, all within a low-density material.
The following sections break down the extensive NORYL portfolio into distinct categories based on their primary characteristics and target applications.
General Purpose and Automotive Grades (PX and N Series)
This category includes many of the workhorse grades, often unfilled and well-suited for automotive interior and exterior components.
- PX0844 & PX0888: Non-reinforced and injection moldable. Very low moisture absorption. Good foam adhesion. UL94 HB rated. Ideal for instrument panels and speaker housings.
- PX1112, PX1134, PX1180, PX1181: Impact modified for toughness. High heat resistance. Low specific gravity. Meets ECE Dashboard Impact Test. Suitable for body panels and interior parts.
- PX1185: Lubricated and impact modified. Works for automotive trim. Can be injection molded or profile extruded.
- PX1390 & PX138H: PX1390 is non-reinforced with high heat resistance. Ideal for automotive connectors. PX138H is 20% glass reinforced. Offers high strength and low warpage.
- N1050, N1150, N1250, N1250G: Non-brominated, non-chlorinated flame retardants. N1050 carries UL94 5VA at 2.5mm. N1250G is a bio-based version.
- N190, N1900, N190X: High impact strength. Very low moisture absorption. UL94 5VA at 3mm. Good for outdoor solar frames and UPS housings.
- N225X, N300X: Good dielectric strength. Works for indoor and outdoor electrical applications.
Glass Fiber Reinforced Grades (GFN Series)
These grades add glass fiber for stiffness and heat resistance.
- GFN1 & GFN1F: 10% glass fiber. High strength and low warpage. GFN1F meets food contact regulations.
- GFN2, GFN2F, GFN20, GFN20F, GFN2L: 20% glass fiber. Excellent dimensional stability. GFN20F carries UL746C F1 outdoor rating. Also FDA compliant.
- GFN3, GFN3F, GFN30, GFN30F: 30% glass fiber. Highest stiffness in the series. Very low moisture absorption. GFN30F is NSF 61 for potable water.
- GFN2BIO3: 20% glass fiber with bio-based content. UL746C F1 rating. Good for construction and lawn equipment.
High-Performance and Specialty Grades
These grades include specialized reinforcements for unique needs.

- PX1630 & PX1860: PX1630 is 30% glass for water management. Certified for potable water up to 85°C. PX1860 is unfilled and heat stabilized.
- PX2630 & PX2630F: High impact extrusion grades. PX2630F is FDA compliant. Very low moisture absorption.
- PX2935 & PX2938: 20% glass fiber reinforced. High impact and hydrolytic stability. PX2938 carries UL94 V0.
- PX500: Unfilled PPE resin. Lower odor during processing. Good for IC trays.
- PX5534: 30% glass fiber. High heat and low warpage. Works for water filters and water meters.
- NC208, NCF1010, NF1520: Wear resistant compounds. NC208 is electrically conductive. NCF1010 has glass, carbon fiber, and PTFE.
- HVN922: 10% glass reinforced with thin-wall moldability. CTI 2 rating.
- IGN320: 20% glass for high heat and high modulus. Used in automotive ignition coils.
- LPN130HG & LPN170HG: High gloss and low outgassing. Good for headlight reflectors.
Flame Retardant and Electrical Grades
These grades focus on safety and electrical performance.
- PX9406: Non-reinforced with non-halogenated FR. UL94 5VA at 2.5mm and V0 at 0.75mm. PFAS-free.
- PX9406K: Consumer electronics version. UL94 V0 at 1.5mm.
- PX9406P, PX9406PBIO5: PFAS-free for thin walls. PX9406PBIO5 is bio-based. Good for solar PV junction boxes.
- N802, N850: High flow and injection moldable. N850 carries UL94 5VA at 3mm. For electrical and business equipment.
- NH4030B, NH4050, NH5020: High flow and impact modified. NH4050 resists battery acid. Good for rail interiors and conduit.
- NH5110E & NH5120: NH5110E has low beard growth for extrusion. NH5120 works for outdoor enclosures.
- NH5120BIO1, NH5120BIO4: Bio-based with non-halogenated FR. Good for harsh outdoor environments.
- NH5120RC3: Contains 30% post-consumer recycled content. For HVAC components and solar boxes.
